Schools

St Augustine’s originally had its own church school for many years, located in the purpose-built buildings next door to the church. The school was much loved, and many people still remember their time there with great affection — we are fortunate to have a couple of former teachers in our current congregation. When St Augustine’s merged with another school, it moved into the new buildings now known as Westminster CofE Primary Academy.
St Clement’s warmly welcomes local schools and community groups to visit the church. We offer guided visits that explore our faith, history, and the church’s magnificent Arts and Crafts design.
If you would like to organise a visit for your school to either of our churches, please contact the Parish Office on 01274 775885 or email office.heartandanchor@gmail.com.

The Anchor Project was founded by St Clement’s Church in 2004 as a community initiative serving the people of BD3. Indi Elcock has led the project since its beginning and is also a PCC member at St Clement’s.
In 2016, the Anchor Project became an independent charity. Revd. Rosy Fairhurst serves as a Trustee, and Catherine Anne Knamiller is the Acting Chair. We are also deeply grateful to Fr Nick Clews for his work as Treasurer. Many of our church members are users or volunteers at the Anchor Project, and we enjoy a close and supportive working relationship.
The Project operates from St Clement’s Monday to Friday during term time, with most activities held in the West End Rooms. The Anchor Project office is located at the East End of the church (up the drive, on the right). Each summer, the Project also hosts the annual BD3 Garden Festival.
Anchor Project activities include:
-
an elders’ lunch
-
a drop-in for asylum seekers with food and second-hand clothing
-
a parent-toddler group
-
two English language classes (one conversational and one for women only)

St Augustine's has been involved in community outreach for a long time. It used to have its work based at North Wing in Wapping until that building was sold to help finance buying the former St Augustine's Primary School, next door to St Augustine's church, in partnership with the local community, to found Community Works.
Jane Lees is the Leader of Community Works and has been there since the beginning. Rosy Fairhurst and Janet Naylor are Church Trustees and we are looking for two more Christians who would be willing to join us on the Board to fill the church places. We are always interested in people from the wider community who would be willing to serve in this way.
